My current body of work consists of complex layered images using materials such as graphite, charcoal, ink, collage, fabric, sewing, and water-based painting media. The images contain elements of both abstraction and observation and are based on the shift of thought patterns between the reflexive and conscious processes of engaging in daily routines such as commuting to work.

Layers are created with purposefully different intent. The first layer represents intuitive, stream-of-consciousness thoughts. The subsequent layers represent varying degrees of control, conscious awareness, and decision making. In creating these pieces, I am intrigued by the complexity of the surface, how the history of the drawing process is evident in the final piece and how these layers represent both a concrete recognizable image as well as the thoughts and patterns bubbling under the surface.
